First Post Ramblings! And Can I Run With a Cough?

So first things first, this blog will mostly be about my adventures running (or not running haha), as well as my adventures in “Bookland”. I don’t have high hopes at blogging regularly (sorry!) unless this becomes wildly successful, and unfortunately, most of my posts will probably be book related (as it is winter-time in Canada currently, and I’m a big wimp), but we shall see I suppose.

I guess now is a good time for an introduction. I’m 26 years old, and have been running off and on for about 6 years, but only recently have I started taking part in races (as this is what keeps me motivated to keep running). I’ve also had my fair share of injuries (of course) so I can definitely share my knowledge on that. I like to think I’m ambitious and active, but to be completely honest, I’m actually quite lazy. I hope that this coming year I’ll complete a half marathon (I’ve only ever ran 10k before). I think the only reason I completed a 10k race this year was because I found my perfect training schedule. Anyway, more about me: I’m currently a shift worker at a youth home, so it’s can be quite hard to fit in training around shift work, thankfully however, I work a lot of evenings, so as long as I get up early I can run in the mornings, it’s the 12hr nights that really throw off my training regime, but I haven’t had to work a lot of those lately. That’s my running story.

My reading story: obviously I’ve been reading since I was about 3 years old (I was an early starter! Thank you older bro!), and in grade 2 I read over 200 books in a 5 month span (yeah, I was THAT kid). I’ve always been a book lover, but since university, I haven’t been reading as much. Only recently have I really fallen back in love with it, and have decided to read as much as possible. I’m actually pretty open to reading anything and everything. Currently I’m reading Mindy Kaling’s book, which is funny as hell! I’m almost done so there will be a review shortly 🙂 I do have a feeling that most of my blog posts will end up being book reviews, but we shall see, I guess!

Onward to the true question at hand: Can I run with a cough? Sadly, I’ve been basically down and out with a viral throat infection, so I’ve mostly been sleeping. Thankfully, today is the first day I actually feel semi-alive, however, I still have an annoying cough. It’s not bringing up any phlegm (yeah, just what you wanted to know, I’m sure), so now I get to quote some (obviously) reliable Google. Trusty Google pulled up a Runner’s World article which states that a person can run if his/her symptoms are from the neck up (so sniffles, sneezing, etc); however, if the symptoms are neck down (cough, wheezing, etc.) one should take a break. I’m not 100% sure if my cough is a dry cough or not, because sometimes I bring up crap, and sometimes I don’t…I think I might try a run, but if I start to cough and I’m not able to stop, I’ll just walk home (I also will take the dog, as she needs to get out anyway) and hopefully not pass out along the way (hence why I’ll take the dog. She can pull me home if need be haha)

With that sorted out, I guess I should figure out what I should do with the rest of my day, seeing as it’s already 2:30pm, and I’m still in my pyjamas…(Yeah I’m THAT person…)

Story of my life…

On that note, off I go to attempt to be a productive human being!
